Amazon didn’t look the way it does today.

What changed?

Apart from transforming their operations, strategic customer acquisition and retention plans, the company has invested in large scale product recommendation engines, improving user experience, and now a newly invented Dash Cart that allows shoppers to shop without visiting a retailer.

This has benefitted the company in many ways. Most importantly, in sales. According to a McKinsey report, 35% of Amazon sales are made through the recommendation engine. Recommendation engines are a simple form of artificial intelligence that assists online shoppers on Amazon’s website to discover new products, increasing chances of sales. The recommendation engine is built on item-to-item collaborative filtering algorithm that compares a shopper’s own past purchases and other shoppers’ purchases to recommend products that a customer can buy.

This is one example of how artificial intelligence is helping companies build better websites. The influence of artificial intelligence is everywhere… so no surprise that web development would be left untouched.

Artificial Intelligence in Web Development

Transforming UI (user interface) development

One of the crucial aspects of web development is the user interface. Building the user interface of the website/ mobile app is a long process. It starts with prototyping on a whiteboard with collaboration among multiple stakeholders. A typical UI design process looks like this:

White boarding / hand drawing/ doodling à Wireframing à UI development.

It can take a month to come up with a prototype for a website design. Using artificial intelligence, reduces this time.
